The night's breeze crisped through the air, as dusk fell. Markets along the road began to close, and lamps lit in areas that were dim. Samurai assembled into the streets rampaging the market way with torched lamps and sheathed swords, while others declined back to their dwellings as their shift ended. These samurai stood tall and proud, they were honored by the townspeople for being the Japanese feudal military aristocracy. They were regarded as high-ranked social men, not just any kind of men, but men of the shinsengumi—created to serve and protect the emperor and Japan against the Tokugawa shogunate. In order to accomplish this, they must first restore order and peace to the city and streets of Japan.
